Description of John H. Gerstner, author of The Early Writings:
Dr. John H. Gerstner was one of the premier theologians of the last half of this century. He is well known for his love of, and writings on, the great American Puritan Jonathan Edwards. His magnum opus on Edwards was his Rational Biblical Theology of Jonathan Edwards. He was noted as an Edwardsian scholar of the first rank. However, before he was a theologian cum laude, he was a pastor and a seminary professor. He began writing regularly for "The United Presbyterian," "Christianity Today," and "Moody Monthly" as far back as the mid-1940's. In volume one are many of those early articles, showing the pastoral side of this emerging theologian. In volume two the emerging theologian applies his knowledge to many varied topics. These early topics date from the 1940's to the 1970's.
