Description of Great Sermons of the World:
Return to the eloquence that makes preaching both a noble calling and a stirring art with Great Sermons of the World. This work features the sermons of twenty-five of the greatest preachers to ever proclaim the gospel, as well as a biographical sketch of each sermonizer. See how masterful preachers reasoned with sinners, encouraged the righteous, and articulated soaring, eloquent praises to their Savior. They altered history and compelled whole countries to pursue God. • Martin LutherÂHe withstood church authorities to defend the supremacy of the Scriptures, launched the mighty protest of the Reformation, and told fellow preachers to "get up freshly, open your mouth widely, be done quickly." • Jonathan EdwardsÂThis colonial preacher's descriptions of hell were interrupted because the distressed crowds were crying too hard to hear him. • Charles SpurgeonÂAt age 2 this Victorian Englishman was the most popular preacher in the world, with church attendance numbering 6,000 every weekÂbefore the invention of the microphone. Join these and twenty-two other heroes of the pulpit as they proclaim Christian thought through the centuries.
