Description of Deborah Shaw Lewis, author of Brother Andrew:
Brother Andrew --"God's Smuggler"--grew up in the Netherlands and suffered during the German occupation of World War II. Finally, forced to eat tulip bulbs to stay alive, he watched his mother slowly dying of hunger. Rather than making him bitter, the experience taught him love and compassion for others. He trained as a missionary, and on a trip to Poland in 1955, he began giving out Bibles and Christian literature in Communist Bloc countries. This courageous and often danger-filled story tells how he founded Open Doors, a ministry that has taken millions of Bibles into countries closed to the gospel, including many in the war-torn Middle East. For ages 8-12.
